Septic Tank Inspection And Maintenance
Regular inspection and maintenance are essential to keep your septic tank in optimal condition. Our team checks for blockages, leaks, and signs of wear, ensuring the system functions smoothly. We advise on the frequency of emptying based on tank size and household usage. By monitoring sludge levels, drainage fields, and compliance with the new general binding rules, we prevent costly repairs and safeguard your property from damage or contamination.
You can tell a septic tank is full by looking for signs like slow drains, gurgling sounds, foul odours, and pooling water in around your property. Other indicators include sewage backing up, extra-green patches of grass over the drainage field, and difficulty flushing toilets.
You should empty a septic tank every 3 to 5 years, but this can vary depending on the tank's size and the number of people using the system. Smaller households or larger tanks may only need pumping every 3-5 years, while larger households or smaller tanks may need emptying more frequently, possibly every 1-2 years or even more. Signs like slow-draining sinks or toilets, gurgling sounds, or foul odours indicate the tank needs emptying sooner.
You must make sure your system meets the ‘general binding rules’ if you’re responsible for (the ‘operator’ ) either:
-
a septic tank (an underground tank where the solids sink to the bottom and the liquid flows out and soaks through the ground)
-
a small sewage treatment plant (also known as a ‘package treatment plant’ - a system that treats the liquid so it’s clean enough to go into the ground or to a surface water watercourse)

Septic Tank Emptying, Cleaning, And Pumping
We handle the complete emptying, cleaning, and desludging of septic tanks for domestic and commercial properties. Signs your tank needs attention include slow drains, foul odours, gurgling sounds, and pooling water. Our experts efficiently pump out waste, remove scum and sludge, and clean the tank to maintain proper bacterial treatment. Routine cleaning every 3–5 years—or more frequently for larger households—keeps your septic system functioning safely and effectively.

How a Septic Tank Works
Wastewater collection: Wastewater from sinks, toilets, showers, and appliances flows into the tank through an inlet pipe.
Separation: Inside the tank, the wastewater separates into three layers:
Scum: Fats, oils, and grease float to the top.
Effluent: The liquid layer in the middle is clearer.
Sludge: Heavier solids settle at the bottom.
Bacterial treatment: Naturally occurring anaerobic bacteria begin to digest the organic matter in the sludge and scum layers.
Discharge: The partially treated effluent flows out of the tank, passing through an outlet baffle that prevents any solids from escaping.
Drainage field: The effluent is directed to a drainage field (or soakaway), where it is further treated as it seeps into the ground.
